Nothing 'Off' About Off-The-Shoulder

I’ve always had a thing for off-the-shoulder pieces. They are loose, sexy (in a not-trying-too-hard way) and subtle.

The key with choosing off the shoulder pieces is to make sure that the other components of your look are kept simple and somewhat covered. For example, pair a cute one-shoulder sweater with a leather pant or an exposed top with a longer A-line skirt. By keeping one aspect of your look covered, you will draw attention to the collarbone area and this will prevent you from looking over- exposed.

Current Obsession: Silk Pants

I know, I know, it’s been a long time since I’ve posted here!

Truth is,  work has been pretty hectic as of late.  A great number of my clients are getting duded up for spring (if it ever arrives in Toronto) and I have been busy conducting wardrobe consultations and putting together Style Boxes for them.

One of my fav pieces to include in these boxes for spring (and my latest obsession) has got to be silk pants. I just can’t get enough of them. They are comfortable, stylish and perfectly light for spring. Ideal for a girl on the go, silk pants are like wearing PJ’s during the day, yet they are on trend and instantly amp up your look. 

My suggestion is to pair them with a great sandal for casual wear or a classic pointed heel/caged sandal for dressier events. Depending on your price point, you can find this style in various stores right now. Everyone from ZARA to Rebecca Taylor is including these goodies in their spring/summer '14 collections and I'm totally on board.

If you want to be effortlessly chic, yet super comfortable, try silk pants for spring! In my opinion, they are must-have addition to your closet.

Tribal Time

Spring is on the horizon and one ongoing craze that doesn’t show signs of stopping is the ethnic tribal trend. I have already noticed beaded, feathery and aztec designs in many prominent designers spring collections and accessory compilations. These beautiful ethnic pieces are sure to add some dimension to any ensemble and will bring colourful patterns in to your spring look.

Fashion editorials have been fond of this tribal look for several years. Archaically designed clothing provides the perfect backdrop for a high fashion shoot and brings the reader back to their native roots.

I for one am a huge fan of the aztec look. Perfect for pairing with a simple ensemble, a tribal piece will add some spice and boldness to your outfit. My suggestion is to start by adding these pieces in to your look with small accessories -- A bright shoe, a patterned clutch or a tribal belt. The more comfortable you get with this pattern, the easier it will be to add bigger pieces such as a aztec sweater or pant in to your look.
